ACTION ALERT: Tell Congress to Protect PrEP and Preventive Care from RFK Jr.!

Just last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that Health and Human Services Secretary RFK Jr. plans to fire every single member of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) — the independent panel of experts whose recommendations have helped secure free access to PrEP, cancer screenings, and other critical services for more than a decade.

Any effort to undermine the USPSTF’s independence and its dedication to producing carefully considered, evidence-based recommendations could threaten access to preventive services for 150 million Americans. We must fight back against efforts to hijack this important regulatory body for biased and political purposes.

Let’s be clear: This task force isn’t political. It’s made up of volunteer scientists and doctors who review the evidence to determine what preventive services are most beneficial for patients.

The USPSTF was created in 1984 to make recommendations for preventive care that are based on medical research results, not politics. Under the Affordable Care Act, insurance providers are now required insurers cover recommended preventive care at no cost to patients. And thanks to the ACA and USPSTF’s work, millions now have free access to lifesaving preventive care—including PrEP. Now RFK Jr. is coming for it all.

This news follows the Supreme Court’s recent ruling in Braidwood, where religious extremists tried to block insurance coverage of PrEP. The Court upheld the Task Force’s legal authority — but also confirmed that the HHS Secretary has the power to remove its members. And that’s exactly what RFK–who has publicly stated that he doesn't believe HIV causes AIDS–intends to do. Don’t let him get away with it.
